Windows 98, Windows 98SE, and Windows ME Support ended on July 11, 2006.

No additional support will be available from Microsoft after this date.  Therefore, I have decided to document what programs, patches or updates have been officially released by Microsoft for the Windows 98 Second Edition Operating System.  I have eliminated data that has been superseded and or included with newer releases, and am concentrating only on the OS.  Some other data for related Microsoft programs may be included (IE6 for example) as it may also affect the OS, and others required by Windows Update.

This information is correct only as to the best of my knowledge, and HAS NOT BEEN VERIFIED.

NOTES:

See MS06-015 at: www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS06-015.mspx for June 8, 2006 update

"***" = .exe files

Column "Info." indicates original source:
"WU" indicates found with existing Microsoft Windows Update.
"SD" indicates included on the Microsoft Windows Security Update CD-ROM*
"C" are deemed critical by review of information available.

         * Internet Explorer 6 SP1, and Windows Media Player 9 are included in this February 2004, CD (Microsoft part No. X10-29587).

In column "Need", a "Y" indicates that this file should be applied to a typical new Win98SE install, in my experience.
An "R" indicates a reboot will be required upon install of this update.
